World Budosai 2012
The Okinawa World Budusai is for a lot of prople a once in a lifetime experience.
A week of training in Okinawa japan the birth place of Karate.
This year sensei Alan took three students from HSGK to the event. The weather was scorching hot and it takes time to get used to training in very humid conditions. We had the chance to train with World Goju-Ryu chief instructor Master Morio Higaonna 10th Dan plus many of the Worlds top karate masters includingSensei Bakkies Laubscher 8th Dan South Africa,Sensei Kazuo Terauchi 8th Dan Japan,Sensei Ernie Molyneux 8th Dan England, Sensei, Sensei Takashi Masuyama 7th Dan Japan, Sensei Katsuya Yamashiro 7th Dan Japan, Sensei, Sensei Tetsuji Nakamura 7th Dan Japan, Sensei Henrik Larsen 7th Dan Denmark, Sensei Jorge Monteiro 7th Dan Portugal and Sensei Luis Nunes 7th Dan Spain.
Each day there was one hour training with Sensei Higaonna where all participants trained together as one group(over 750 people!). Students were then split into groups according to grade and had three more sessions with the instructors rotaing every hour. It is great to experience the different styles of teaching from each karate master, and to train with different people from around the world. Even if you do not speak the same language new friendships are made very quickly with karate training.
After training there is time to explore the diverse culture of Okinawa with its busy shopping areas and countless bars and restuarants to the tranquility of Shurijo Castle Park. Our favourite outings were 2 tropical Islands that we visited and swimmming in the tropical waters with all the snakes, sharks and venomous fish. If you take your mind of of them the water is the most beautiful blue you will ever swim in.
Although an expensive trip in excess of £2500 it is a trip that will be remembered for the rest of your life. It only accures every four years so £10.00 a week saved is all it takes to be able to go on the next World Budusai.
